Media, such as high definition video files (.mts) are not natively recognized by FCP and must be incorporated using the “Log and Transfer”. This command is also housed under the ‘file’ tab on the task bar. This command allows FCP to interpret the high definition media which is recorded in the AVCHD format which is common to the majority of high-definition video acquisition devices.

When in the Log and Transfer window, you may select the source housing the media and allow it to be pre-edited, thus giving you the opportunity to select particular scenes or segments, discarding the extraneous material. Once the desired material is selected, the segments can be ingested by selecting the “add to queue” command. The ingestion of the video segments can be very time consuming based on the size of the clip, and the specific computing power of the system.
